Festival of the Commons – Jan 19th in Austin!

Do you care about our community and this precious planet and want to be part of the forces that shape our future? Join us on January 19th to be educated, entertained, and inspired at the Festival of the Commons in Austin Texas!

Hosted by Activate Austin, this day of sharing knowledge and music features Lisa Fithian, CommonSpark collective, local folk band The Sparrowmakers and revolutionary protest/singer songwriter, David Rovics!

The Festival of the Commons is a benefit for CommonSpark’s Commons Library Project and the Orun Center for Cultural Arts.


Schedule of Events:

Noon – 1PM Welcome, informal table presentations, mingling, and meet-ups

1PM – 3PM Deconstructing Empire, Building for the Long Haul offered by Lisa Fithian, long-time organizer, will explore how strategic nonviolent action with people powered strategies can topple the pillars of empire while building a sustainable and liberating culture!

3PM – 4PM Informal table presentations, mingling, and meet-ups

4PM – 5:30PM Decolonizing the Commons, The Rising of Collective Power with Ellen Friedman, Megan Keith & Jim Casey of CommonSpark collective. We will examine how the market state grabs power through enclosure and privatization, and experience how mapping can help us create a strategy for reclaiming collective governance of all we share.

5:30PM – 7PM Simple healthy vegan food, informal table presentations, mingling and meet-ups

7PM The Sparrowmakers

8PM David Rovics

Full event tickets are sliding scale ($15-25) and concert only tickets are $10.
